Pet Rabbits as Easter Gifts

Is Getting a Pet Rabbit for an Easter Present a Good Idea?
At Easter time many parents want to surprise their children with a real bunny. Although they are cute and cuddly, they need a lot of attention and care. Unlike dogs or cats, rabbits are very fragile animals and can frighten very easily if not handled properly. On the other hand, they are easy to care for and can even be trained to use a litter box. Rabbits can live upto 11 years old, so be prepared to live with the commitment. Unfortunately, after the novelty wears off, many rabbits are handed over to a shelter. Rabbits should have daily exercise out of the cage in a designated room that is rabbit proofed to stay healthy. Rabbits are chewers, so you don't want to have electrical wires out in the open. Mostly, chewing won't be a problem if you provide them with rabbit toys and plenty of hay to chew on.
If you want a pet rabbit, it is best to adopt one from an animal shelter than a pet store. Shelters can give you good information about the rabbit's health, friendliness and its history. Rabbits in shelters are usually spayed or neutered, which is highly recommended to calm and tame your rabbit for indoor living.
Having owned a rabbit myself, they are nice companions and are quiet animals. They love to be petted and will snuggle up to you on a couch.

Charity Squid Hub Author 5 days ago
Alex, I'm glad you are interested in owning a pet rabbit, but you didn't say how old you are. It would be a good idea to have your parents read this hub on owning a rabbit and letting them know that you would be responsible for caring for it. Picking the right rabbit is very important. So it is best to get one from a shelter that is already domesticated and fixed. And the caregivers can tell you their temperament. They can be very sweet and lovable if they are allowed time out of the cage. Good Luck and keep me posted.
